Description

Two strips in one, because the content could not be contained in a single row of panels! Admittedly, this strip reveals that if I didn't tone my strips there'd be almost no substance to them, and that photo resources are very useful, especially when you've taken the photos yourself and have no issues with copyright. That's really only applicable in the case of the Vietnam War Memorial and the Constitution, which was really hard to photograph in that dimly lit room with everyone swirling around. Ah well, it was worth it. Still, I'm a little miffed that I couldn't keep to my Tuesday deadline. Better luck Saturday.

So, my first proper day in the nation's capital, and what do I do? Why, sightsee, of course. We wore our feet into bloodied stubs walking from place to place. Beginning a little off the National Mall, we went from our hotel to first the Vietnam War Memorial, where I looked up some soldier with the same last name, as I don't actually have family who fought in Vietnam. From the extremely subtle and understated Vietnam War Memorial we went to the quite loud and also recent World War II Memorial, where we enjoyed the slight shade and cool off the fountain provided in the 90º 70% humidity of the day.

From then on it was a marathon of museums, beginning with a few wings of the Smithsonian Museum of American History where we saw the Star Spangled Banner of 1812 fame. Then on to the National Gallery of Art and the Sculpture Garden outside of it. Major points if you can guess the sculpture without Google. Lastly we wound our way into the National Archives, who were celebrating 75 years of storing information. Despite being exhausted at that point it was worth seeing the writing that founded the country I live in. Even the Magna Carta, which I didn't expect.

I feel so bad about taking forever and a day to comment on this series, but here it is:

This has to be one of my favorite strips so far, especially with all the little details, including using photos for the reflection wall and the constitution. Just pure brilliance and I hope you keep it up!

I'm also glad that you had such a fun trip, even though it was what? 2-3months ago? :XD: I have to remember to comment more often.
